  • Responsible for all aspects of running the business: long term strategic direction and growth of overall exhibition division, P&L, business development (including evaluating potential acquisitions, integrating new shows into existing business and divesting properties), key contact with association, vendor and bellwether clients, sets collaboration with magazine partners, negotiates all vendor and key venue contracts, hiring. Also responsible for overseeing business units including business and marketing plans, show P&Ls, problem resolution
  • Improved or retained market-leading positions in all key shows despite industry turmoil, competitive pressures, economic decline and corporate cutbacks
  • Ran 2 shows over 9-11 and first show back in Javits after FEMA . Successfully settled insurance claims on all 3 shows

One of the largest exhibition and conference organizers with Internet presence, events in 17 industries in North America, Europe, and Asia.
1998-1999 Senior Vice President
Oversee all activities for Canadian and Consumer Divisions and the Buildings, Federal and Fun industry trade Shows with revenues of $24 million, profits over $12 million and growth of 14%. Assuming responsibility for Portfolio with revenue of $43 million and profits of $27 million in September. Responsibilities include:
  • Negotiating contracts with associations.
  • Developing strategic direction for events
  • Repositioning events, which resulted in increased profits.
  • Launching new events.
  • Identify potential acquisitions and follow through to completion.
1993-1998 Industry Vice President
1996-1998 Manufacturing Group
Responsible for overall management, strategic direction and implementation of sales, exhibitor and attendee.
Promotion, operations, association and publication relations, conference and non-exhibition activities for largest manufacturing event in North America with revenues of $18+ million and staff over 20.
  • Grew profits over 13% in one year
  • Realigned expenses to increase profit margin over four percentage points to over 68%
  • Increased technology focus of event to accelerate growth; secured association and key exhibitor support
  • Launched Industrial Enterprise Show; got association, publication and key exhibitor support
  • Brought in international pavilions for first time
  • Repositioned National Plant Show; reversed attendance and exhibition space decline
1993-1994 Media and Technology Group
  • Launched activity in Entertainment field, structuring/executing deal with Variety
  • Secured management contract on leading technology/entertainment event
  • Transitioned acquisition property and staff into REC
1990-1993 Senior Vice President
Responsible for business development for North America, including personally launching Control engineering, automated manufacturing, digital signal processing and securing high tech show contract; Together these events fulfilled strategic business development goals. New launches accounted for over $3.5 Million in revenue. Handled sales, promotion, operation, conference development, publication , association Relations and staff development.
1985-1990 Vice President and Senior Vice President
Responsible for the development of strategic business plans for REC, including the preparation of three-year Strategic plans. Created research group to quantify show results and determine market needs - a first in the Exhibition industry. Created new business team to research opportunities in industries, served by REC, Identified new business opportunities and developed launch plans.
1983-1985 Director of Planning
Created planning process for company and individual shows; expanded planning beyond annual budgeting process to include strategy focus. Worked with operating units on individual show plans, determining their positioning and creating a balanced company portfolio. Evaluated acquisitions and new business proposals.
1981-1983 PepsiCo, Inc. Senior Business Planner - Corporate Planner
Managed merger and acquisition analysis, including search, evaluation, recommendation. Reviewed monthly results, annual operating and strategic plans for $2 billion division; evaluated and recommended capital expenditure programs.
1978-1981 Corning Glass Works Financial and Project Analyst
Identified, analyzed and recommended domestic and international external new business opportunities for consumer, high technology and industrial projects resulting in acquisition and joint-ventures in USA, Europe, Japan, Asia. Corporate Planning Group work involved evaluating company performance and product portfolio; resulted in divestiture of product lines and corporate reorganization.
